If you've ever considered sponsoring a child, you might have wondered about the benefits for yourself and the child you sponsor. Maybe you're unsure of how to go about sponsoring a child, or what your sponsorship funding will actually accomplish. Let's find out how sponsorship works, what the benefits are and how you can get involved.

  • Choose a Child to Sponsor: The first step in becoming a sponsor is choosing a child you want to help. If you feel strongly about helping a child in a specific country, you can browse the list of places in which ChildFund operates to find a location. To choose a child online, visit our website. If you'd rather use the telephone, get in touch with us by calling 800-776-6767.
  • Contribute to a Child's Future: Sponsoring a child overseas costs just $39 per month — less than the price of a cup of coffee each day.

Although $39 per month may not seem like a lot of money, it's amazing what a difference this sum can make in a child's life. As a sponsor, you'll help ChildFund provide children in some of the world's poorest countries with essential health care, nutritious food, access to education, clean water and opportunities that would otherwise be out of their reach.

Your generosity will not just benefit a single child and his or her family, however. As a ChildFund sponsor, your financial support will be combined with those of other sponsors, meaning that entire communities can receive the help they need to emerge from poverty and thrive.

  • Make a Personal Connection: Many of our sponsors find corresponding with the child they sponsor to be the most rewarding aspect of child sponsorship. If you choose to write, you'll receive regular letters from your sponsored child, telling you about daily life, family members, school and friends. You'll also receive an annual progress report on the child's health and educational achievements. Over time, you can develop a strong bond with the child you sponsor, enabling you to see how your generosity is making a difference.
  • Visit the Child You Sponsor: For some of our sponsors, letters simply aren't enough. If you want to meet the child you sponsor, you can discuss the possibility of visiting him or her personally. ChildFund can help you coordinate a visit with your sponsored child, which can be a life-changing experience. Rather than relying on letters to see how your support is making a difference, you can see it firsthand.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, ChildFund has been able to improve the lives of thousands of children around the world. However, there is still an urgent need. More than one-third of children worldwide are malnourished due to food scarcity, and more than 1.3 billion people live on less than $1.25 per day. As such, it can be difficult for families in the world's poorest countries to provide for their children.

In addition, more than 200 million children around the world lack access to basic health care, which results in almost 10 million deaths annually. A lack of clean water is a particular danger to millions of children, and a child dies from a water-related illness every 20 seconds.

To make a difference in the life of a child, please consider becoming a sponsor through ChildFund. Your support and commitment will ensure we can continue to provide essential services to the world's poorest communities, and offer hope to children growing up in poverty around the world.
