ChildFund combats the COVID-19 crisis in Honduras with help from Amazon

Generous donation of PPE to support thousands of vulnerable children and families

Richmond, Virginia | August 20, 2021: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ChildFund received a donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Amazon consisting of 100,000 face masks, 300 face shields, 28,000 KN95 face masks, 1,900 isolation gowns, 90 infrared thermometers and 3,100 liters of hand sanitizer. The PPE donation will directly impact the lives of thousands of children and their families, and support ChildFund’s efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Honduras.

“Kids and families in Honduras are more vulnerable than ever right now, and many of them can’t afford to spend the extra money on anything besides basic needs,” says Anne Lynam Goddard, president and CEO of ChildFund. “But protection from COVID-19 and other threats to families’ health should not be seen as a luxury. We are so grateful to Amazon for this donation of PPE that will help keep children and their families safe from COVID-19 wherever they are – at home, out in their communities or within health care facilities.”

With daily COVID-19 cases continuing to increase in Honduras, the donation comes at the right time for vulnerable communities. Many Hondurans are still recovering from hurricanes Eta and Iota, strong storms that struck the country in November 2020 and caused widespread destruction to infrastructure and livelihoods. Now, with the 2021 hurricane season already in full swing, communities and their health care systems must brace for the worst.

Amazon has distributed millions of PPE supplies to eligible nonprofits through its Donations Hub.
