[Richmond, Virginia – March 31, 2025] ChildFund is responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, with highest priority on the needs of children, who too often fall by the wayside in emergency responses.
“Children caught in an emergency like this can’t wait,” says Radwa el Manssy, ChildFund’s director for Children in Crisis. “Every moment without protection or support adds to their distress. Our work begins the moment disaster strikes.”
ChildFund Myanmar has worked there since 2012, with offices in Mandalay, Kachin, Bago and Yangon. They are currently working with partners and within broader coordination mechanisms to conduct rapid needs assessments in affected areas. Early assessments show that immediate needs include clean water, food, shelter and psycho-social support, especially for children. Initial response will likely focus on these.
Radwa el Manssy is available for interviews and can provide up-to-date information on the response.
