Rafael is a very young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Elson and Viviane, and with a sister and a brother, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Both the parents work as day laborers in agriculture; the combined income, however, is far from enough to meet even the most basic needs of the family. Rafael is tranquil and calm. His pet name is Rafa. He is a toddler and gets into everything. He takes bottles as well as some solid foods. Playing with colorful and noisy toys keeps him amused for hours. Rafael is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He is still too young to attend school. The family is needy and through your support Rafael and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
