John is a cheerful boy staying with his father and grandmother after his parents separated. He hails from North Eastern part of Uganda. They sleep in two roomed grass thatched huts made of mud walls and wattle which are repaired on yearly basis. John has started his long education journey, attending school at the kindergarten. His grandmother roasts for his a sweet potato for his breakfast. His favorite game is rolling an old bicycle tyre. His family depends on subsistence farming for survival, growing maize, beans, cassava tubers, sweet potatoes and vegetables. More of what they produce is consumed at home while any surplus is sold off to get some income. Due to over cultivation coupled with unpredictable weather patterns, the family has seen a gradual decline in crop yield. The yield cannot sustain the family food requirements and provide enough income to meet other basic needs. With your kind contribution, his wellbeing will be assured.
