Mikael is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his maternal grandparents, Marcos and Alessandra, and with one uncle, in a small community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has never provided any financial assistance whatsoever and his whereabouts is unknown. The mother lives and works (as a cleaner) in another area. Marcos works loading and unloading trucks and earns low wages. Mikael is cheerful and affectionate. He likes playing ball and with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. He has two dogs and one cat he is fond of. Mikael is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public preschool and loves arts. He says that he will be a police officer when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Mikael and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
