Saikou and his family lives in a coastal village in the west coast region of the Gambia. His family’s poverty is visible from first sight of his parents who hardly wear new clothes all year. Saikou’s father is a subsistence farmer and use the money he earns for the family up keep. His mother on the other hand does the daily house chores for the family. She also does petty trading to supplement her husband income. Their total annual income is approximately US$370.00. His family has to cope with two main meals all day. Saikou is a handsome and smart boy. Saikou likes playing with dolls. A kind gesture to help educate this child would spare his life from the unbearable repercussions of poverty.
