Rhavi is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Jade; grandmother, Irlane, and with three uncles, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his child. Irlane works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Rhavi is shy and affectionate. He likes playing with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. He has a dog he is fond of. Rhavi is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Rhavi and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
