Malaika in English word means an angel. She is a true African strong girl living with her mother and two brothers in North Eastern Uganda. She likes running round the house and playing with dolls. They sleep in a grass thatched house made of mud and wattle with packed dirt. Malaika does not attend school due to her tender age. Her father left the family after separation so the responsibility of providing for the children to the single mother who is struggling to get for them daily meals. The mother practices small scale farming for livelihood. She earns less than 10 dollars a month which can not sustain them. Some days the mother leaves Malaika alone in the house when she goes to search for a casual job to avoid going to bed with empty stomach. The mother uses herbal medicine to treat various illnesses which in most cases is ineffective because she does not have sufficient income to cater for basics like health. We strongly believe that through your kind sponsorship to Malaika, will positively change her life and that of the family.
