This is Marlene. She is a joyful, smart and loving girl who has much fun playing with dolls. She grows up in the city of Oruro, western Bolivia, which is famous for its carnival. She attends primary school and likes her sports classes. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day. She lives with her mother in a small house made of adobe walls and corrugated metal roof. Her mother is the sole breadwinner. She sells goods on the street. She makes around US $ 116.00 per month. The income that the family receives is minimal and insufficient to meet all of their basic family needs. Poverty is a daily reality that most Bolivian children face throughout their childhood, as they do not have enough resources to thrive. The story of this child can follow the same pattern if we do not do something to change it.
