Joao is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Amanda, and with a sister and a brother, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Amanda receives a very small family allowance from the federal government, which is far from enough to meet basic needs. Joao is affectionate, cheerful and active. He likes playing with toy cars in the company of his brother and other kids his age. Joao is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He is still too young to attend school. The family is needy and through your support Joao and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
