Melinda is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Felipe and Maria, and with two brothers (she is the middle child), in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Felipe takes some odd jobs when available; his low income, however, is far from enough to meet basic needs. Melinda is affectionate, polite and playful. She helps her mom by making the beds. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Melinda is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. She says that she will be a doctor when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Melinda and her family will have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
