Carliane is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Carlos and Maria, and with two younger sisters, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais. Their simple home, which is self-built, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Carlos takes some odd jobs when available (he is unemployed at this time) and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government. Carliane is intelligent, affectionate, curious and playful. She helps her mom by putting away items like toys and dishes. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of her sisters and other girls her age. She has a dog she is fond of. Carliane is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public elementary school and her favorite subject is Math. The family is needy and through your support Carliane and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
