Yashira Ovindhi, a young girl from Monaragala District, Sri Lanka, lives in a peaceful, rural, green, and quiet area. She lives with her parents in their own house, though it remains incomplete. The house is built with cement walls and floors, and has a roof made of asbestos sheets. Despite its unfinished state, it provides shelter and a sense of security. Yashira helps her mother with cleaning the house and gathering firewood, taking on responsibilities to support the family. Her favorite hobby is playing with her friends, enjoying the simple pleasures of childhood. Yashira attends primary school, which is 1.5 km away, and she walks there every day with her mother. Her father works as a full-time wage worker in farming, while her mother works part-time. Their combined annual income of $1,200 is barely enough to meet their basic needs, including providing three meals a day, healthy food, and covering educational expenses. Though they have tap water, electricity, and a toilet facility, Yashira’s family struggles. They are in desperate need of a sponsor to help improve their living conditions and give Yashira a brighter future.
