Prarshana is a sweet little kindergartener who lives with her sister and grandparents. Her father is not in the picture and her mother is a ‘migrant mother’ (a mother that works as a domestic helper in the middle east). Prarshana goes to school and back on foot with her grandmother. Her grandmother engages in faring activities to support Prarshana’s mother with income generation. Her annual income is about USD109. Needless to say, life is difficult for little Prarshana. She misses her mother but there aren’t many options open to this single-parent family living in the poverty-stricken Moneragala district of Sri Lanka. Single-parent families are vulnerable. A little help can go a long way for little Prarshana and her sister. Prarshana too, does what she can to help. She helps her grandmother to clean the house and do the laundry. She also accompanies her into the woods to gather firewood for cooking. In her spare time, Prarshana plays with dolls and makes believe that she is all grown up like her mother and imagines what it would be like to have her mother close to her.
