Liria is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Leonardo and Cicelia, and with two younger sisters, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Leonardo works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Liria is a polite, cheerful and studious girl. She helps her mom by sweeping the floor and washing the dishes. She loves playing ball games along with her sisters and friends her age. Liria is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public elementary school and her favorite subject is Math. The family is needy and through your support Liria and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
