Chamidu, a young cheerful boy, his sister and parents, reside in their own half-built brick house which has a clay floor and a roof covered with clay tiles. They do not have access to a water-sealed toilet or electricity; they obtain water from a common well. Chamidu attends a school in the village and his favorite subject is Sinhala. As his school is situated about 03 k.m. away from his house, he walks to school every day with his mother. Apart from playing hide and seek and playing games with his friends, Chamidu loves to read books. His mother and father earns a small annual income of nearly $600/-, by doing seasonal farming, which is not a sure income: as a result of their small income, and also due to the rising cost of living, his family finds it difficult to make ends meet. By sponsoring Chamidu, he will be able to live happily and will also help him to attend to his education successfully. His parents too will be able to live a happy life.
