Taksawadee or Pong a miserable girl was born in an abjectly needy family that lacks various opportunities in many aspects. She lives in an old dilapidated and insecure house with her father and mother. Her family grows rice and corn for a living and their farming depends upon the forces of nature. If facing up against natural disasters, landslides, and long dry spells, the rice yields would be insufficient for families to eat all year round and corn which is the main source of family income might be damaged and not saleable. During an off-farm season, her father and mother would work as wage earners to feed the family, they would do every job they could find in the village or anywhere they got hired.
