Helen is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Diego and Maria, in a small rural village located in the interior of the state of Ceara, which is a hot and remote region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Diego has a job as an Internet technician and Maria sells greens and vegetables (doing odd jobs); the combined income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Helen is playful, shy and intelligent. She helps her mom by making the beds. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. She has a cat she is fond of. Helen is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public preschool where she is making good progress. She says that she will be a doctor when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Helen and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
