Esthe is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Antonio and Francisca, on the outskirts of a city located in the state of Ceara, Northeastern Brazil. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, ceramic tile floors and a clay-tiled roof. It has a simple bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Antonio works as an assistant bricklayer and Francisca takes care of an elderly lady (both doing odd jobs); the combined income, however, is far from enough to meet basic needs. Esthe is intelligent, affectionate and friendly. She helps around the house mostly by running messages and sweeping the floor. Her favorite pastimes include playing tag and hide-and-seek. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Esthe is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public school and her favorite subject is Portuguese. Her wish is to be a doctor when she grows up. Through your support Esthe and her family will have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, education and nutrition.
