Zongsak or Guerm a miserable boy was born into an abjectly needy family who lacks opportunities in many aspects. He lives with his father, mother, and two older siblings. His family grows rice, corn, and cassava for a living. Their farming is much dependent upon forces of nature; if it rained well, the crop yields would be sufficient for the familys needs but if facing up against drought, the yields might be very few and insufficient for sale which could be done just once a year. They would keep rice for home consumption only. After selling corn and cassava, they needed to deduct the invested money thatwas borrowed from the others.
