Joao is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Neilton and Derenilce, and with two brothers, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Neilton struggles to earn a living as a servant on constructions when available, but his very low income is far from enough to meet even the most basic needs of his family. Joao is affectionate, playful and lively. He likes playing ball and with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. He has a cat he is fond of. Joao is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Joao and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
