Melisha stays with her parents and her two siblings in a remote village in the mid-western part of Uganda, they live in a grass thatched roof house made of mud walls and packed dirt floor that exposes them dust and constant respiratory infections. Her parents earn very low income through small scale farming on a rented piece of land cultivating food crops seasonally, the crop yields are always low because of the ever-changing climatic conditions, pests, and diseases. On average a month, the family earns approximately 13 US dollars that cannot meet all their needs. The family lives 8 kms away from the health center which is costly in terms of access in times of health emergencies. Oftentimes, forcing them to use local medicine which is risky for Melishas health. She is a lively, happy, and friendly girl who likes to smile.
