Shadrack is a happy, friendly, and active boy, he likes dancing, he has a scar around the cheek caused by an accident he was involved in while playing. He is the middle child living with his parents in a crowded small grass thatched house made of mud walls, and packed dirt floor. His family earns approximately 16 US dollars a month through peasant farming on a piece of land donated to them. The land is exhausted due to over cultivation and changing climatic conditions over the years which has left them with low crop yields and posed a threat to food security. His parents are unable to provide school requirements in time. To supplement their little income, they offer cheap labor in peoples gardens. When Shadrack falls sick, they use local herbs to treat him because they cannot afford medical care bills, exposing him to health risks due to lack of proper medical care. The community has no nearby school leading to delayed enrolment of children. We are hopeful your choice to sponsor Shadrack will create more sources of income to support him and the family through participation in the organizations program interventions.
