Mariana is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her mother, Maria De Fatima, and with a younger sister, on the outskirts of a small town located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Electricity is available. Water is carried from a well. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Maria De Fatima works as a day laborer in agriculture when available and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Mariana is lively, intelligent and cheerful. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. Mariana is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Mariana and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
