Jonathas is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Joao and Maria, in a small rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Joao is unemployed at this time. Maria is an assistant teacher and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government. Jonathas is intelligent, curious and cheerful. He helps his mom with some small household chores. He likes playing soccer along with his friends. He has a cat he is fond of. Jonathas is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public elementary school and his favorite subject is math. The family is needy and through your support Jonathas and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
