Felex is a young boy who lives with his parents in a community located on the outskirts of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique in southern Africa. The region is characterized by a hot and humid climate during most of the year. The neighborhood where Felix lives is a cramped slum whose basis for subsistence is street trading. His house, which is self-built, consists of block walls, an old zinc sheet roof, and a concrete floor. Being located in a suburban area, the house is served by running water and electricity, but the familys living conditions are of extreme poverty, lacking almost everything. The father is a laborer, unable to meet the most basic needs due to his unstable income. The mother collects discarded plastic containers and bottles in the city and sells them to solid waste management companies for recycling. Felex is a quiet child who is not yet of school age. In an effort to ease his situation, the family has sought the help of ChildFunds sponsorship program, where Felex will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition and recreation.
