Josiane is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Helmario and Maria, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and arid region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Both the parents work as day laborers in agriculture; the combined income, however, is far from enough to meet even the most basic needs of the family. Josiane is communicative, cheerful and studious. Her pet name is Josi. She helps with some household chores. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. She has a dog she is fond of. Josiane is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a public school and her favorite subject is Math. Her big dream is to become a veterinarian someday. The family is needy and through your support Josiane and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
