Yan is a very young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Luiz and Maria, and with a brother, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Electricity is available. Water is carried from an artesian well. Both the parents work as day laborers in agriculture; the combined income, however, is far from enough to meet even the most basic needs of the family. Yan is a calm and sweet baby boy. He also appears to be a bright child. He is being breastfed and also takes some fruit juice. Bright colored and noisy toys attract his attention most. Yan is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. The family is needy and through your support Yan and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
