Maria is a very intelligent, friendly and talkative girl. She lives with both parents and siblings in Central Western Uganda. Their house is made of muddy wools and roofed with rusted irons. Her family depends on small scale farming for both food and income to support other basic needs, they earn an average income of US 10 dollars monthly which is inadequate to support family needs. Maria is enrolled at a primary school, her best subjects are Mathematics and English but due to very low income at home she misses attending school most times which hinders her to perform excellently in academics. Maria and family members always manage to have one meal per day which affects their health yet they have limited access to medical services, whenever they fall sick they use local herbs for treatment which is very dangerous to their lives. Despite all the challenges, she is a very talented girl who participates in culture dances and draws pictures at school, she is focused on her future dream of becoming a doctor.
