Maria is a very young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Johnaton and Ana Paula, on the outskirts of a city located in the state of Ceara, Northeastern Brazil. Their simple home has brick walls, rough cement floors and a clay-tiled roof. It is self-built and has a tiny bathroom. Water is carried from a well. Electricity is available. Johnaton takes some odd jobs as an unskilled laborer when available (he is unemployed at this time) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Maria is an active and sweet baby girl. She crawls all over the floor and sits all by herself. She takes bottles as well as solid foods like corn pap and vegetable soup. She likes playing with colorful and noisy toys. Maria is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. Through your support Maria and her family will have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, education and nutrition.
