Jose is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his uncle and aunt, Cicero and Luciene, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Both the parents have abandoned the home. Cicero takes some odd jobs when available (he is unemployed at this time) and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government. Jose is affectionate, lively and intelligent. He is called Arthur in the household. He likes playing with toy cars and action figures in the company of other kids his age. He has a cat he is fond of. Jose is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. He says that he will be a doctor when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Jose and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
