Sandhya belongs to a backward family and lives in a tribal village located in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand. Her locality does not have adequate health, water, and sanitation facilities. Her father is a marginal farmer and earns approximately USD 240 per year. This low income is insufficient to support the family, pay for education, and other household expenses. The mother is a dedicated housewife who tries to do whatever is at hand but is unable to overcome the problems. The humble parents appealed to this project for assistance in the care and education of this child. Sandhya attends primary school and does well in her studies. Her favorite subject is Hindi, the national language. She loves playing group games with friends. Her health is average. She has five sisters.
