Laxmi lives with her parents, one brother, and one sister in a remote tribal village in the eastern India state of Jharkhand. Her father is working as a casual laborer earning approximately USD 595 per year. The meager income is insufficient to care for the household and other basic expenses. The mother is a resourceful housewife. However, she cannot make ends meet despite her best efforts. The humble parents approached this project to provide the child with a better future. Laxmi attends a government primary school and does well in her studies. Her favorite subject is Hindi, the national language. She loves playing group games with friends.
