Thanapat or Por is a miserable boy was born into a needy family who lacks various opportunities. He lives with his maternal grandfather, grandmother and younger brother. His father and mother went to work in Bangkok, Por and his brother are then in care of their grandparents who grow rice for a living. Their farming area is a small plot and does not yield much crops. During an off-farm season his grandfather would work as a construction labour, he would do every job he could find both in and out the village to feed the family. The employment is uncertain and when his grandfather does not get hired, the income is lacking. His family also has some amount of debt to be responsible for but the money his father and mother sent to family each month is not sufficient for them to get by.
