Scovia was born in North Eastern Uganda where she lives with her parents and five siblings. Scovia attends school at the kindergarten and her favorite subjects are numeracy and literacy. She wishes to become a nurse in future. At home, she helps her mother to clean utensils. They sleep in a grass thatched hut made of mud walls and wattle with packed dirt. Her family practices subsistence farming on a small piece of land and grow crops such as cassava, maize for home consumption. Their average monthly income does not exceed US 10 dollars per month. They collect water from a community borehole serving more than 300 households and they have to walk for 2½ kilometers to the water source.
