Kalilu lives with his parents in a mud brick house covered with old zinc roof in the extreme north of Sierra Leone. The father works in the rice field while the mother is a backyard vegetable gardener. Their combined annual income is about US$ 226.00 which is too small to meet their basic needs. Despite the numerous constrains, he is a healthy and promising child. He sleeps on a straw mat on the floor beside the bed of his parents.
