Antoniela is a girl who lives with her parents and a brother in a community located on the outskirts of the city of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, in southern Africa. It is a coastal area characterized by a tropical climate that is hot most of the year. The neighborhood where Antoniela lives is a cramped favela, whose basis of subsistence is street trading. Her unfinished house, which is self-built, is made of concrete blocks, which are not plastered, a zinc sheet roof, and a concrete floor. The house has running water and electricity services, but this does not compensate for the level of abject poverty they live in. Their parents are both illiterate, which prevents them from getting a meaningful job, and they can only live in casual jobs that do not make ends meet. Antoniela is a little girl of tender under school age. She loves to play hopscotch for fun and to play with dolls. The family has sought assistance from the ChildFund sponsorship program, where Antoniela will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition, and recreation.
