Their main source of income is farming and they grow crops on a small piece of land but due to the persistence climatic changes, the crop yields are of a poor quality produce which leaves the family with very little food for only home consumption. Her family earns US 15 dollars a month which is not enough for providing the family needs. Shalin is in a grade school where she gets knowledge and skills from, her favorite subject is English and she is a hardworking girl though her major problem is the high level of poverty at home which makes her unable to attend school thoroughly since she is ever sent home for school fees.
