Salamatu is a smart looking girl who is living with her parents and siblings in a family house left to them by her late grandfather. The house is roofed with old zincs that leaks especially during the rains. It is located in a farming community north of Sierra Leone. The community is deprived of clean drinking water. They fetch water from an open well which most times causes sicknesses like diarrhea. Salamatu sleeps with her siblings on a locally made bed using grass mattress. Salamatu has started attending school. Her father is a trader who doubles as a farmer, growing rice, cassava, and groundnuts. The mother sells cooking ingredients at home. Their combined annual income hardly meets the basic needs of the family. They depend on one meal a day. Salamatu loves playing with local dolls. She is healthy and doing fine at present.
