Katerin lives with her parents in a rural community located at the South-Central part of Honduras which has fertile lands where most people do a livelihood as farmers by growing basic seeds. Her mother Ericka does the house works and takes care of the family while her father Josue makes a living as a farmer by growing corn and beans, but their low monthly income of $ 40.00 is not enough to raise the family out of poverty. They share a three-room house of their own which is poorly built with adobe walls, tile roof and dirt floor; it has some of the public services found in their location, such as: drinking water and latrine, but they dont have electricity. Fortunately, Katerin has no mental or physical disabilities and stays healthy most of the time. Katerin is a very curious, playful and happy child who enjoys coloring and drawing; for fun, she likes to play with dolls, and she helps at the house cleaning. She goes to second grade at primary school, where her favorite class is Spanish.
