Thales is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his widowed mother, Maria, and with two sisters and a brother, in a small rural village located in the interior of the state of Ceara, which is a hot and remote region. Their simple home has brick walls, rough cement floors and a clay-tiled roof. It is self-built and has a tiny bathroom. Maria does some subsistence farming when available; however, she harvests very little due to the poor soil, unstable weather and rudimentary farming methods. The family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government, which is far from enough to meet basic needs. Thales is communicative, playful and affectionate. He runs errands for his mom. His favorite pastimes include playing soccer and tag. He is fond of animals, especially dogs and cats. Thales is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public school and his favorite subject is Portuguese. Through your support Thales and his family will have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, education and nutrition.
