Rujaree or Pukpik is a girl, born into an abjectly needy family that lacks various opportunities in many aspects. After breaking up, her father has never paid child support. She lives with her mother, maternal grandfather, grandmother and aunt. Her mother grows rice for home consumption. She also works as a wage earner to feed the family. Her farming depends upon the forces of nature; if facing up against rain shortage, the rice yields would be damaged and insufficient for the family to eat all year round.
