Lara is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her maternal grandmother, Patricia, and with two aunts, one uncle, a friend, and a cousin, in a slum area on the outskirts of a city located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The parents have separated and live in different areas. Silvio (friend) works as an assistant bricklayer (doing odd jobs) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Lara is lively, playful, and observant. She runs small errands for her grandma. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. Lara is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. She says that she will be a teacher when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Lara and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
