Stella is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Edvaldo and Ana, and with a younger sister and one older brother, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Edvaldo works as an assistant bricklayer (doing odd jobs) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Stella is tranquil and playful. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of her sister and other girls her age. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Stella is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She is still too young to attend school. The family is needy and through your support Stella and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
