Jose is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Jose and Janilma, and with one sister, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Jose works as an assistant bricklayer (doing odd jobs) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Jose is intelligent and friendly. He is called Ravi in the household. He helps his mom by putting his toys away. He likes playing tag in the company of other kids his age. He has a dog he is fond of. Jose is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Jose and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
