Mariama and her family live in a rural community in a two-bedroom mud block house in the west coast region of The Gambia. She currently attends a lower-basic school and is a hardworking child. Mariama has two brothers and two sisters, and they all live together as a family. She enjoys playing hide-and-seek with her friends.Mariamas mother is a petty trader who also engages in gardening at the back of their house, with the support of her husband. Her parents are farmers who rely on vegetable gardening and seasonal cropping to meet their basic needs. Unfortunately, a lack of rainfall has negatively impacted their crops, which have been further affected by termites, leading to low yields. As a result, the income generated from their farm is insufficient to support their familys needs. Mariama therefore needs ChildFund sponsorship to improve her life in the future.
