Mary is a social, playful girl born in North Eastern Uganda. She lives with both parents and siblings and attends formal education. Her school has few desks and for one to sit on them, then the child has to be so early to school yet Mary cannot manage because her home is a distance from school. They live in grass thatched huts with packed dirt floors and mud walls with no provision of windows. Her family owns one-acre piece of land where they cultivate food crops mainly for home consumption and little for sale. However, following changes in the weather conditions and other factors such as crop diseases, soil infertility and poor farming methods, the crop yields harvested is very low and this has left the family with little food for home consumption thus making the family to survive on an average income of less than US 10 dollars per month.
