Igor is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Sebastiao and Maria, and with one sister, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and arid region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has adobe walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Both the parents do odd jobs when available (he as a farm laborer, she as an artisan) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Igor is affectionate, intelligent and shy. He likes playing with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. Igor is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public primary school and loves physical education. His wish is to be a police officer when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Igor and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
