Ramatu is a lovely girl loved by many people in the community. She lives with her parents, two brothers and two sisters in a farming community, in the far north of Sierra Leone. The family and child live in a self-built house with mould mud bricks, dirt floor and old zinc covering the roof. The water for their daily need is fetched from streams and local wells. They use battery lamps as light at home. The main source of income of the family is farming. They grow crops like rice, maize, peanuts and vegetables. They work hard everyday in their small plot of land, but do not harvest much due to the poor soil and old farming methods. Their combined annual income is less than US$ 450.00 which is insufficient to cater for the whole family needs. They therefore depend on a single meal a day and settle certain needs such as health, clothing and educational support of their children. Taking Ramatu as your sponsored child will make a whole lot of difference in her life. She can grow up in a safe and conducive environment.
